BP SJK KARATE was started in 1978 by the Alleyn Family, Mrs Alleyn suggested starting karate as a family. Our family consisted of (Mum Lilian , dad David, brother Brian and me.. “Christine “.
We trained at Picketts Lock for a few years until we gained Our Black Belts, having been taught by great teachers including ” Kanazawa and Enoeda Sensei’s”, Mum again decided we should open our own Club which we did, We opened our own karate school in 1978 and called it “School of Japanese Karate” you can also visit our website at https://sjkkarate.co.uk.
Many years later and still running well I had my 2 daughters who also started Karate. My brother then dropped out .
Unfortunately in 2007 mum was diagnosed with Cancer and she fought a good fight but in 2013 she passed away leaving us all devastated. We carried on teaching at the club with broken hearts but dad found it difficult without mum and became Ill himself.
Myself and my two daughters with the help of some lovely advanced students carried on teaching. Unfortunately my father went down hill and my partner who I met a couple of years before helped me with my father and also trained in Karate but my father finally passed away in 2019 to join his love. My father passed away just a short few months before Hirokazu_Kanazawa.
At this time..feeling very low I carried on with their club in their honour and combined the students I had from Black Panther with the SJK students calling the club BPSJK, I am still a big part of the club with Teaching and Judging at my gradings and courses and I received my Black Belt 6th Dan 3 years ago.
My two daughters who are Black Belts still teach at the classes as well as the long term great students and now my grandson who is 3 years old received his first belt .

How did Bpsjkarate start ? Our club photos
SJK is a family run club opened in 1978 by Dave and Lilian Alleyn (RIP) taught for many years with the help of their children Christine and Brian.
Bpsjkarate started with Sensei Christine who combined SJK and BPK karate clubs to form BPSJK in memory of her parents. She taught her children, Debbie and Melissa, karate from a young age, and they now help run the club.
BPSJK is highly regarded as a great club.
Our karate club has dedicated long-term students like Zina and Nick who assist in teaching classes.
Dave Sempai, Debbie Sensei (2nd Dan), and Christine Shihan work together behind the scenes to ensure the smooth operation of the Bpsjkarate club.
Our teachers have several years of experience and treat our students like family. Christine, with 48 years of dedication to Shotokan Karate, is a 6th Dan Shihan.
We offer Karate classes in North London & Hertfordshire for kids and adults.
We have a proven track record of nurturing students who have excelled in various fields, including higher education.
Moreover, they offer karate classes for kids with some disabilities. Our lead teachers have taken special classes and have certificates for a program called “Aiming high for disabled children course,” which covers working with young people who have Autism spectrum disorders.
The content emphasizes that their services extend beyond standard karate training.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP WITH ANY ISSUES, INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE CLUB. WE CONSIDER OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AS FRIENDS!
We treat everyone with the same respect that we expect to receive in return. Everybody is welcome to join us, young, old, disabled, any race and any sex!
It’s very important to only use Karate for self-protection. You should never use it on someone else unless you have to defend yourself.
The style of Karate we teach is Shotokan Karate and we start from as young as 3 years old and take anyone of any age – even families! You can watch a small clip from Shihan Christine’s 2013 Shotokan Karate course .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwXro_eBRoo
